Charles Eames RAR Rocker

The RAR Rocker by Charles and Ray Eames 1950

Modern Furniture Profile

The RAR Rocker is one of a group of Plastic Armchairs which were developed between 1950 and 1953 by Charles and Ray Eames with Zenith Plastics of California.

There were over fifteen variations including the DAR dining chair, the LAR lounge chair and a swiveling version on castors.

The seats were made from molded fiberglass reinforced plastic on a steel rod base attached to solid wood rockers.

The original chair shells were available in gray, gray green and beige, then later upholstered versions and more colors were introduced.

This beats the old wooden turned colonial rocking chair hands down, with it’s sleek curvaceous lines it is modern furniture design at it’s best, this chair is ideal for any children’s room, front porch, offices, living rooms and bedrooms.

It is now in production by Herman Miller Inc. You can still buy this timeless design.
