Minimalist Bedroom Design

Contemporary Minimalist Bedroom Design Style at it’s Best

Look at the simplicity of this bedroom design.

Amateurs will look and think, that is so easy, throw a few things together and there you have it, there’s not much there….piece of cake!

But you give it a go yourself. It is actually very difficult to design in this minimalist style.

Minimalism style is basically how it sounds using the minimal amount of decoration for the maximum amount of benefit or anything which is sparse or stripped to its essentials. This was influenced by traditional Japanese design and progressed by de Stijl who focused more on using basic elements such as lines and planes organized in very particular manners.

There comes the difficult part, incorporating all the functional things you need in a bedroom but still keep the space looking sparse and focusing on flat planes.

I think this bedroom design is a good example of a minimalist bedroom, and what I really like about it is the use of color and texture which I think makes the minimalist bedroom design unique.

The choice of blue for the wall color is unusual in the minimalist style as most minimalist interiors use white as the backdrop, but I think the blue here is perfect as it is a wonderful calming color for the bedroom, ideal for inducing sleep. The planes – horizontal in this bedroom interior are depicted here in the form of the the low bed and simple dressing of the mattress and simplicity of the pillows, there are definitely no throw cushions here! Following along those horizontal planes are the side table in white and this becomes a feature in the simple space as it contrasts highly with the brown shag woolen floor rug, the only texture in the room.

This rug grounds the bed, and as the bed head is a dark brown timber the mattress appears to float on top. The same horizontal planes are used with the form of the chest of drawers these are wide and short and the handles are recessed and wide and horizontal continuing the horizontal pane look.

Then above the drawers the mirror is placed on the wall. I think is wonderful as you can see it too follows the squat horizontal form that is happening in the interior, but the reason I love it is it acts as basically the only decoration within the space, and it is a changing form of decoration, people moving past, changes of light in the room reflecting out, different pictures throughout he day!. Great work.

The only other form of decoration are the small bedside lamps, they are still functional and simple in design form. Can you see any thing that is not necessary in the minimalist bedroom? Perhaps a blanket! No, I am sure that the blanket is housed in a cupboard close by somewhere.
