How to Change your Bathroom Look using a Shower Curtain
Almost everywhere you look now, there is a sale on at every bed and bath store and the selection of shower curtains that pop up on the TV screen is mind boggling, but it is also great for us as designers.
Remember when the only shower curtain you could buy was limp and thin and clung to you with the slightest breeze in the bathroom? Oh, I’m shivering at the thought. Well that’s all changed now and the shower curtain business is thriving, and the competition to sell you a designer style is high. What does that mean to us? The interior designer or decorator?
It means that we can renovate or remodel a simple bathroom, quickly and effectively by using one ingredient. Yes, the humble shower curtain. Well perhaps I exaggerated a little, you will need a curtain rail or rod, sometimes they come with a track, it depends on the shape of the space that you want to place your shower curtain, but apart from that, the hardest decision is what style you want.

How do you change the look of a bathroom with a simple shower curtain?
Now, if you could now imagine this space with a black shower curtain, the look would be dark and completly change the look of teh space it would feel heavy and break up the space, now think about how a simple white shower curtain would look (this used to be about all the color choice we used to have!) The bathroom would then look more like a hotel space, clean simple and clean with no personality. Another example, a clear plastic shower curtain? What look would that create? A busy home with lots of kids perhaps. Add a color, bright red, fun and stimulating for your morning shower.
You can start to understand what I am talking about when you can look at one small photograph of a simple shower over a bath and start to change only one piece of the design, how many different looks you can achieve. You could even have an everyday shower curtain and one for when guests come to stay, just like the lovely towels you bring out only when the guests visit.
So next time you see a TV ad for a bed and bath store advertising shower curtains, don’t think of them as horrible wet clingy pieces of fabric anymore, think of them as a quick and easy way to jazz up your bathroom, brighten your day and impress your guests, and the best part is that it is so economical to do.
