Cite Armchair by Jean Prouve 1930
Classic Modern Furniture Profile
The Cite Armchair by Jean Prouve was one of his earlier furniture designs.
Obviously happy with his design as he used it in his own home. It is quite stunning in form and definitely original.
The frame is made of reshaped sheet steel with a lacquered red or black finish, the seat is made of continuous fabric which is stretched over a tubular steel frame to create a hammock effect and provides good support to the body.
The armrests are very novel – they are made of leather straps and buckle at the back, the only real piece of adornment on the chair.
The style or form of the Cite Arm Chair is low slung with a high angled back.
Ideal for use in a living room and would sit well in commercial applications
The lines of the chair are very definite and all for a purpose. There is a minimal amount of detail for maximum effect.
