Jean Prouve Antony Chair

Antony Chair by Jean Prouve 1950

Classic Modern Furniture Design Profile

The Antony chair was originally designed for the University of Strasbourg and manufactured by Jean Prouve’s own company and distributed by Steph Simon of Paris.

It is constructed of steel and molded plywood.

The molded shape of the seat appears to be suspended in the steel frame.

The frame has an industrial look with the weld marks visible and a simple painted finish.

The molded plywood seat is fixed to the steel frame in four visible points allowing air to be seen between the frame and seat.

The warm color and smooth surface of the timber seat is in high contrast to the black metal frame.

This chair is comfortable and supportive and regarded as Prouve’s best chair design.
