Gerrit Reitveld End Table

Modernist Furniture Design Profile

End Table by Gerrit Reitveld 1923

Gerrit Reitveld aimed to put the ideas of the de Stijl Group into 3D form.

This was the use of the machine in manufacture, eliminating curves or forms or colors that express personal emotions, using only primary colors and neutral colors, white, black, and gray.

Simple to produce from easily standardized parts. Rietveld realized that his furniture was not always practical, the End Table and the Red Blue Chair were early furniture design and therefore still in experimental stage as he searched for his desired new form of furniture.
