Dramatic Study Makeover

Dramatic Study Makeover

Great satisfaction can be achieved by renovating an existing room.

Interior design and decorating creates major changes in people’s lives. Done well it can improve the way we feel in our home environment, giving us a more positive start to each day.  This project has brought a tired room back to life, and hopefully provided a more positive space for the client.

The Study Design Makeover Brief:

This room was the temporary storeroom while the client moved into his apartment home. His vast collection of books required housing, the blinds were tatty and had high maintenance qualities.

The room had no personality, no color or texture. The client wanted to be able to relax into the study, use the desk, sit down and read in a comfortable homely environment. The client also had a vast art collection which needed to be incorporated into the scheme.

Existing Study, used to store everything before the makeover.

The Plan of Attack for the Makeover:

  • Select a masculine theme.
  • Make sure there was ample space to add as much artwork as possible.
  • Remove the wardrobe and use for new solid timber bookcases.
  • Paint the walls in a deep color to create a cosy atmosphere.
  • Add some comfortable chairs for reading.
  • Provide lamps for reading and creating softer light.
  • Remove blinds as room was to be used mostly in the evening drapes were all that was necessary.

Dramatic, the books add a lot of texture and movement into the redecorated space.

The Design Conclusion:

Leather chairs were purchased by the client to co-ordinate with his existing desk chair. The small scale of the chairs suited the small room.

Roman blinds / shades were selected in a masculine stripe blue/green/gold and cream stripe, creating a neat and ordered look at the windows.

Desk lamps were well positioned for reading and creating mood in the evenings.

The solid timber bookcases have made the biggest impact. They are dark and dramatic and the books add a lot of texture and movement and color into the space.

A deep blue/green paint color was selected for the walls, this created a good contrasting backdrop for the artwork, whilst making the room feel masculine.

Lamps were well positioned for reading and creating mood in the evenings.

The artwork was grouped to areas of activity and for a small room, we managed to house a considerable amount.

Overall a dramatic makeover, achieved by simple planning and careful product and color selection, combined with fantastic furniture and artwork.
