Blue and White Kitchen Makeover
Blue and white is a popular color combination for kitchens.
Interior design and decorating creates major changes in people's lives. Kitchens are a space where we spend a great deal of time, so making them work efficiently and look aesthetically pleasing makes the "chore" of cooking and washing up afterwards seem enjoyable.
The Design Makeover Brief:
This kitchen was original 1970's solid timber cabinetry with a painted finish. The benches were shallow and modern appliances like the dishwasher did not fit under it neatly.
The layout of the kitchen worked, it was simply outdated. It needed to have easy clean surfaces, lots of storage and more lighting. A breakfast area for the children was also a special request and that the kitchen be blue.
Design Method:
New stainless steel appliances were selected, the layout confirmed and the finishes selected. A simple speckled white laminate bench top with a timber front edge, a soft french blue prefinished board for the cabinetry, frosted glass for the overhead cupboard fronts and an artificial plank form of timber flooring.
The existing timber blinds could remain, white tiles were used for ease of cleaning on the walls and the remainder of the walls and ceiling were painted white.
Halogen lighting was used to give the kitchen lots of sparkle, and a small halogen pendant was used to define the breakfast bar.
