Dining Room and Study Makeovers
The dining room is an area where you can have a great time decorating, it is a place that you only spend a limited amount of time, but it is quality time. You can make the decoration more elaborate and striking.
The furniture you use (or currently have) often starts the theme or style of the room. If you have elaborately upholstered dining chairs then you lend more to heavy drapery for your windows and deeper and richer wall colors.
If you have solid timber chairs and table then the look could be more rustic or traditional with warm honey colored walls to enhance the natural glow of the timber or wood and wrought iron candelabra to add some drama to the table.
Don't forget lighting, this is the most important thing for the dining room. You need to be able to see what you are eating, but you don't want to make it feel like you are sitting in a retail store with spotlights blazing down on you to do it! That is why a central pendant is so popular in dining rooms. A dimmer switch is essential so that you can alter the level of light you require, depending on the time of day. Uplights work well on the walls as they cast a reflected glow from the ceiling and provide a more subtle form of light.
For the study, comfort is the most important thing. You want this room to reflect the owner's personality and be a great place to retreat to. Using deep warm colors, rich plush fabrics, and comfortable chairs is a way to achieve this. This space also requires a versatility of lighting. Side lamps are ideal, with a simple form of gerneral lighting.
