Frequently asked question

Does all my furniture have to be the same or can I use bits and pieces that don't "match"?

All of your furniture does not have to be from the same range, collection or period, you can have an eclectic collection. Different pieces from different periods, but for it to succeed you do have to have some sort of underlying theme. Perhaps you use the same fabric range on all the furniture, or the upholstery colours all complement each other, you use a braid or accessory that ties them together, or they all are made from the same timber or wood, or they are made from the same metal.

Similar proportions is always a good idea as well because a big chunky cosy sofa can make a glass coffee table look weightless and not feel that it should be part of the room, or a solid timber dining table and thin spindly aluminium chairs can also look out of proportion. If you are looking to buy new bits and pieces to add to your furniture collection, pick out a similar element and follow through with that for example, a curved back to chairs and sofas or a rolled arm, metal or timber feet, loose cushioning on sofas and chairs of different designs. Good Luck!
