Interior Design Fittings and Fixtures - Plumbing and Sanitary Fixtures

WC - Pan

There are three versions of the wash down pan. They have the S, P and skew types of trap.

The S trap pan has the shape of the trap in an S. To identify this outlet of the pan faces directly to the floor.

The P trap pan has the shape of the trap in a P.

To identify this the outlet of the pan goes out through the wall at the horizontal or angled slightly down.

The skew type pan has the outlet going out to the left or right of the pan at an approximate right angle.

All these pans are obviously used in differing situations giving consideration to the ease of installation and maintenance in the area to be installed and giving consideration to where the soil pipe is.

Shrouded Trap Pan

Shrouded Trap Pan

There are different designs of pans:

Shrouded Trap Pans - which have the p or s trap, shrouded so that there is no gap. This is easier for cleaning.

Close Coupled Suite - this is where the pan and cistern are usually joined together with the flush pipe concealed.

Wall Faced Pan - this is a pan that can be fitted directly against the back wall, it is also easier for cleaning.

Wall Hung Pan - this type of pan bolts directly to the wall. It's advantage is that it is very easy to clean under the pan.

Boxed Rim Pan - this is a pan with a closed water rim with outlet holes around the underside of the rim that allows the water to wash the pan. This is a much quieter type of pan and means that the cistern can be mounted higher or in different position without the problem of too much pressure into the pan causing splashing.

Open Rim Pan
- this has a flushing rim, which is open and directs water to the front of the pan allowing water to fall freely over the bowl to wash the surfaces.
