Heat Lamps and Heaters for Bathrooms and Ensuites

Learn what you need to know about heating bathrooms and using heaters.

The bathroom will have an ambient heat from the rest of the house but when the skin is wet the natural evaporation will cool off the body.

Heating the bathroom may come from a central heating system or from an under floor system. Where this isn't the case then we use bathroom accessories such as heat lamps and/or heaters.

Fan heaters in a bathroom take the air in the room and pass it over heating elements and then blow it back into the room thus raising the temperature of the air.

This also helps reduce the steam in the room by raising the ambient temperature closer to that of the hot water so it has an additional benefit. The heater can be positioned over the wall or door where the inlet ventilation is to help reduce the cold effect of the air movement.

Heat lamps don't heat the air (well not significantly or quickly) but instead rely on radiation (like that from the sun) to heat the surfaces of objects such as skin on the human body. Therefore they need to be placed high and centrally to reach all parts of the room where the person will be. They have the additional benefit of lighting the room as well.
