Color Schemes for Red

Red is a popular color in interior decorating, but it can be overwhelming if you don't know how to use it properly. The color wheel is a great tool for showing you the different color combinations you can create with red.

Below are examples using the pure hues, you can change the look of these by adding white or black but the combinations are still in tact, so you know that they will work well together.

For example we select a triadic color scheme for the color red. This is a simple one to remember as it is the three primary colors, Red, Yellow and Blue.

To create an external color scheme for a house using these colors you could have a clay red tiled roof and front door. Mustard yellow plastered walls and steel blue window joinery and frames, spouting and downpipes.

You have altered the tint or shade of the hue (color) but the combination still works well together. I find when you do make changes to the hues, that if you keep them all with the same nuance (colors of the same saturation and lightness) then you can't go wrong.
