Color Schemes for Orange

Orange is coming into our homes more frequently, you may say it has already been here with peach and apricot, but the bold vibrant orange has sneaked in the back door, it is often teamed with neutrals like gray, or white.

To work out how to put color schemes together for your interior with orange, take a look at the color wheel, this will show you how we arrive with the color combinations.

In the picture below we demonstrate these color combinations derived from the color wheel using the pure hues.

If we have a look at the tetrad scheme for orange you have orange, yellow, blue and violet. Too many colors to work with you think?

Have a closer look. Think about when you see a patterened fabric, it often has five, six or seven colors, and they all work well together.

This is how you combine them. Pick one color, for our example we will use a dining room and start with Orange as the base (or main) color, this is the bulk of the scheme, we will use this on the floor, terrracotta tiles and terracotta walls, we then have blue and yellow striped chairs with a butterfly in orange scattered over them as the pattern. The floor rug is made up of a combination of blues, golds, violets, lilacs, peaches and white. The drapes are in a similar fabric to the chairs but they don't have stripes, just the butterfly motif in orange on a blue background. The vase and centrepiece of the table is terracotta (orange) with blue and yellow irises.

There you can see how you can combine multiple colors succesfully.

Below you will find color schemes derived from the color wheel for the Orange Hue.
