Bathroom - Semi Hard Flooring Product Definitions

Here are some definitions for semi hard flooring products that can be used in a bathroom, for more detailed information follow the link provided.

Cork

Cork is a natural product that comes from the bark of the evergreen oak. It is most commonly available in tiles. It is warm underfoot and provides natural beauty to a room.

Unfortunately because it is natural and porous it is not the best product to use in wet areas.

Obviously you seal it with polyuretane once it has been installed onto the floor, but there will be times when you have more than the odd splash in bathrooms an accidental flood perhaps and the water soaks into the edges of the tile around the perimeter of the room and water gets under them and they start to lift and peel up. Then it is a down hill slope, they all start to go haywire!

Linoleum

This product has been around for a very long time, it provides a marbelled look to the floor and is in sheet format, that means it is rolled out in usually 2 meter widths. It is made of natural products linseed oil, ground cork, resin, fillers and pigments. Because it is made from cork you can have similar problems with major water spillages, but it is harder and more durable than standard cork flooring. It is often used in bathrooms.

Flexible Vinyl

One of the most common products used for bathroom floors. This is because it is impervious and flexible and can be coved up the wall to stop and water getting under it in case of large spillages. It is a very versatile product and comes in thousands of design ranges as well as thicknesses, textures, patterns and colors.
