20th Century Furniture Designers and Architects
Le Corbusier - French of Swiss decent (1887-1965)
He was born Charles Edouard Jeanneret in 1887, he changed his name to Le Corbusier.
"A magnificent gesture, we shed tatters of an old culture." Le Corbusier.
He saw that with new architectures that new furniture was required to replace the traditional as the two no longer cohesively worked together.
He designed to fulfil this need. The Chaise Longue, 1928, was designed for complete comfort and versatility in mind.
It can be reclined to any position or removed from its base and used like a rocking chair.
Grand Confort (grand model and petit model 1928), were designed to replace the traditional armchair. The design was very similar to that of Josef Hoffman, Cubus,1910.
